Get your business noticed across Google’s platforms.
Whether you’re looking to show up on particular search queries, or build awareness across hundreds or thousands of websites your customers use, there’s a campaign type in Google Ads that works for your needs.
Google Ads is one of the most common and effective advertising platforms used by businesses to get front of potential and current customers. It is also often matched with Meta Ads campaigns to help drive further demand through social channels that Google alone can’t reach.
An advertising campaign type for every objective.
Since launching in 2000, Google Ads has evolved to include a plethora of campaign types for businesses. Knowing what these campaigns are and how they can be used will go a long way to taking your business objectives to the next level.
Google Ads currently offers the following types of campaigns:
- Search - shows up on Google Search, one of the world’s most popular search engines. Ads can also be displayed in AI Overviews, AI Mode, and on select search partner websites (requires campaign-specific settings to enable).
- Display (sunsetting) - shows your visual images and HTML5 ads across 2+ million websites in the Google Display Network based on your settings and targeted audiences. Existing standalone Display campaigns will be upgraded to Demand Gen campaigns from January 2027.
- Video - promote your videos on YouTube, with targeting available across the YouTube website, the YouTube app, and YouTube TV.
- App - give your mobile app on Google Play and the Apple App Store more visibility, or drive app installs.
- Demand Gen - focused on awareness and engagement-type campaigns, across all Google surfaces and platforms. Channel selection is available to limit platforms to one or more of: Display Network, Gmail, Maps, Discover, YouTube
- Performance Max - as the name implies, this campaign focuses on delivering the most results-based performance across Google surfaces: Search + search partners, Display Network, Gmail, Maps, Discover, YouTube
Qualified with experience and certifications.
Working on the tools is only half of the equation. I’ve also focused on attaining (and maintaining) certifications where I can to keep myself across the tools I use. This gives you peace of mind that I show proficiency and continued education to stay at the forefront as these platforms release new features.
I renew these certifications every 12 months to ensure my knowledge remains up-to-date with the changes that come in.
You can view my current Google certifications on Google Skillshop, Google's certification platform.
Frequently asked questions
If you are new to advertising on Google - or in general - starting something new can be scary and a bit daunting. Especially when your money is involved. Here are some questions I have been asked over the years that might give you some answers right away.
What do I need to start Google Ads?
All you need to start advertising on Google Ads is a Google account, and have an approved method of payment (credit card is the most common option businesses use). You will also need some details about your business for verification requirements.
You can register your account either as a business, or an individual advertiser if you are a sole trader and don’t have a separate registered business.
How much should I budget for spending on Google Ads?
The amount you spend will always be subjective on the types of campaigns you want to run, the targeting you need, and the results you achieve. The industry and sector you work in will also play a part on what you should spend - especially if your competitors are also advertising.
The general goal is to have your business spending ~5-10% of your gross revenue on total marketing budget spend.
Can you coach me to run Google Ads myself?
